Atlanta power out? Report it to Georgia Power 24/7 at 888-891-0938, text OUT to 42797, or check the outage map. Downed line: call 911.

Last checked Oct. 6, 2026. Phone numbers and restoration steps come from Georgia Power’s outage pages and Atlanta Gas Light.

Georgia Power is the electric utility for most of Atlanta. If your lights go out, report it to Georgia Power, not the city; the city’s ATL311 line handles water, trash and streets, not electricity. Georgia Power also takes streetlight outage reports.

How Georgia Power restores power

The company describes its order of work on its restoration page:

  1. Critical services first: hospitals, emergency and public safety services, military installations and water and wastewater stations.
  2. The biggest fixes next: repairs that bring back the most customers in the least time.
  3. Then smaller lines, down to individual lines in neighborhoods.

Crews cannot start until conditions are safe: after the storm has passed, winds have dropped at ground level and in the bucket, lightning has moved off and roads are passable. A damage assessment team inspects each outage first; until it has, the map shows “Assessing Conditions.” The estimated restoration time is set after that inspection.

If your meter or service entrance is damaged, Georgia Power cannot reconnect you until a licensed electrician repairs it; crews may leave a door hanger. Call the company when the repair is done.

Staying safe

  • Never go near anything touching a power line. Report it to 911 or 888-891-0938 so it can be barricaded.
  • Run a generator outdoors only. Georgia Power warns that generators can produce deadly carbon monoxide quickly and can cause shocks or fires if used incorrectly.
  • Move over for utility crews working on the road; Georgia Power notes it is the law in Georgia.

What this means for you

  • Save 888-891-0938 and text REG to 42797 before the next storm.
  • “Assessing Conditions” means no estimate yet, not that nothing is happening.
  • Water main break or sewer problem? That is the city: ATL311, 404-546-0311.
