The BeltLine trails

Eastside BeltLine Trail. The “model mile” of the BeltLine, built on an old railbed. PATH describes it as 14 feet wide with a very slight uphill grade heading south, lined with restaurants and bars, and very busy, so take care. It passes Piedmont Park, Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market and meets the Stone Mountain Trail. Source: PATH Foundation.

Westside BeltLine Trail. A 3-mile greenway from Washington Park at Lena Street south to University Avenue. The connected West End Trail runs 2.4 miles from Rose Circle Park on White Street through Gordon White Park to Westview Cemetery and the Southwest BeltLine Connector. Source: PATH Foundation.

Northeast Trail. Atlanta Beltline’s site notes that the Carriage Trail section of the Northeast Trail is closed for construction (Atlanta Beltline).

Greenways around the city

Freedom Park Trail links Virginia-Highland to Inman Park, passing the Carter Center and meeting the Stone Mountain Trail halfway (PATH).

PATH400 is an intermittent greenway along Georgia 400 from Peachtree Creek at Piedmont Road toward Sandy Springs, near Lenox Square, Phipps Plaza and the Atlanta History Center. When finished it will run 5.25 miles and link the BeltLine to the south with trails in Sandy Springs (PATH).

Proctor Creek Greenway runs from the Bankhead MARTA station to the Grove Park and West Highlands neighborhoods and Westside Park. It has a few hills but suits most riders and walkers (PATH).

Chastain Park Trail is one of PATH’s busiest, mostly walkers, joggers and dog walkers, with two loops: one around the golf course and one north of the Galloway School, the amphitheater and the playground (PATH).

Lionel Hampton Trail, PATH’s first trail, runs through mature forest in southwest Atlanta and connects to the Southwest BeltLine Connector. It is named for the jazz musician Lionel Hampton, who donated much of the land in 1993 (PATH).

Stone Mountain Trail starts at Centennial Olympic Park and runs 19 miles east through Freedom Park, on streets through Candler Park and Lake Claire, as a side path through Decatur and as a rail-trail into Clarkston (PATH).

Rules

  • Dogs must be on a leash on all City of Atlanta parks, trails and public spaces that are not designated dog parks (Leash Up ATL).
  • Trail etiquette guidelines are posted by the PATH Foundation.
