Where it is

On the city’s map, Downtown runs from North Avenue in the north to just short of Interstate 20 in the south, and from about the Downtown Connector in the east to Northside Drive in the west. Peachtree Street is its spine, and Five Points, where Peachtree, Marietta Street, Decatur Street and Edgewood Avenue meet, is its center. City Hall is at 55 Trinity Ave. SW, inside the area.

By land area, Downtown is 45% ZIP code 30303, 34% 30313 and 16% 30308, with slivers of 30318, 30334 and 30312.

Schools

Downtown is in Atlanta Public Schools. Its zone lines split it four ways at the elementary level. Shares are of the area’s land in the district’s zone map data on Oct. 6; scores are 2025 College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) figures from the state’s School Grades report.

Level School Share of area 2025 CCRPI
High Midtown High (report card) 76% 91.1
High Booker T. Washington High (report card) 17% 61.2
High Maynard Jackson High (report card) 7% 79.7
Middle David T. Howard Middle 11% 92.7
Middle Martin L. King Jr. Middle 7% 74.1
Elementary or K-8 Centennial Place zone (the state lists the school as Centennial Academy) 65% 71.2
Elementary or K-8 Michael R. Hollis Innovation Academy 17% 64.0
Elementary Hope-Hill (John Hope-Charles Walter Hill Elementary) 11% 64.0
Elementary Paul L. Dunbar Elementary 7% 61.1

The Centennial Place and Hollis zones cover kindergarten through eighth grade, so those students do not split off to a separate middle school until high school. The district lists every cluster on its feeder patterns page.

Who serves Downtown

Downtown is inside city limits, so the Atlanta Police Department, Atlanta Fire Rescue and the city’s Department of Public Works serve it. Property tax goes to the city, Fulton County and Atlanta Public Schools.
