Parts of Juniper, 11th and 12th streets in Midtown are closed until noon Sunday, Nov. 1, for the G20 foreign ministers' meeting. The blocks, detours and how to get alerts.

Three streets in Midtown are closed until noon Sunday, Nov. 1, for the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The closures began at midnight Wednesday night and cover the blocks between Peachtree Street and Juniper Street from 11th Street to 13th Street.

The Atlanta Department of Transportation announced the closures in a traffic advisory posted Wednesday.

Which streets are closed

ATLDOT lists three closed sections:

Street From To
Juniper Street NE 13th Street NE 11th Street NE
11th Street NE Peachtree Street NE Juniper Street NE
12th Street NE Peachtree Street NE Juniper Street NE

The closures run from 12 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, to noon Sunday, Nov. 1. The advisory labels the start day as Friday, but Oct. 29 is a Thursday. The notice says the closures started at midnight on the night it was posted.

ATLDOT said the closures are meant “to accommodate improved pedestrian and vehicular mobility during the G20 Meeting of Foreign Ministers and other Downtown activities.”

Detours

The department asked drivers to follow the marked detour signs. Its suggested alternate routes:

  • Peachtree Street NE when traveling south
  • 10th Street NE to get back to Juniper Street NE heading south

ATLDOT has not published a separate notice for Peachtree Street itself. Our road construction and closures page carries the city’s other current closures.

What the meeting is

Secretary of State Marco Rubio will host foreign ministers from the G20 economies in Atlanta on Friday and Saturday, the State Department said in a media note on Oct. 26.

The department said the talks will cover “threats to freedom of navigation, energy and food security, and supply chains.” It said the meeting sets the stage for the G20 Leaders’ Summit that President Donald Trump will host.

The State Department’s note does not name a venue. The city’s advisory does not either.

A busy weekend downtown and in Midtown

The G20 closures overlap with two big events:

What it means for you

  • Avoid the blocks east of Peachtree between 11th and 13th streets until noon Sunday. That includes the stretch of Juniper Street between 13th and 11th streets.
  • Heading south through Midtown, use Peachtree Street, or take 10th Street back to Juniper Street.
  • Allow extra time for trips through Midtown on Friday and Saturday, when the meeting is in session.
  • Get text alerts from the city: text “JOIN” to 470-524-7673 for ATLDOT’s real-time traffic updates.
  • Questions about the closures go to ATLDOT through the contact listed on its advisory, or to ATL311.
